In high school, my experience with language was largely unimpactful, distressful even because the language teachers made me feel like foreign language was a currency for getting into college. Making mistakes was scholastically unimpressive and therefore reduced my aptitude to a letter grade. Dr. Sharon stresses that language is a fully cultural, physical and emotional expression, thats mastery is incremental and signified by more than just “getting the answer correct”. In Sharon’s lesson, mistakes are badges of honor— the only means to knowledge. As a result of this, I feel no shame in Sharon’s class, which is quite possibly THE most important ingredient in studying a new language.

Sharon speaks almost entirely in Spanish in our lesson, which sounds intimidating, but I quickly came to appreciate it, feeling like both a spectator of a foreign language and a participant grounded in a normal, friendly, everyday, native conversation. She takes you seriously. She’s not afraid to both encompass you with the language and stick you in the middle of it. She never underestimates your ability to hear and, in turn, apply. And this vote of confidence goes a long way.Â

       She teaches language consumption in moderation, not as a brain binge. My entire house is covered in yellow sticky notes with Spanish words because she’s teaching me that it’s a long game of real, tangible integration. If you start making drastic lifestyle changes too quickly, they may not last and are almost guaranteed to fail. If you sneak your vegetables into your pupusa overtime, you might train yourself to eat them.Â

Dr. Sharon is more than a teacher to me—she is a mentor, a motivator, a friend, and even a partner. I worked with her as an online school student from 2020 to 2023, but her influence on my life extends far beyond the classroom.

From the very first lesson, I felt her genuine passion for teaching and her deep belief in her students’ potential. It was something different and new for me in comparison with my previous experience of learning English. She made English feel alive. Her lessons were not just about grammar and vocabulary—they were about expression, identity, and real-life communication. When I was preparing for the IELTS exam, she didn’t just train me to pass it—she helped me own the language, to use it confidently and naturally. Thanks to her support, I passed with strong results enough for the next step of my life – university.

But Dr. Sharon’s impact on me went far beyond academics. She inspired me to dream bigger and eventually helped me make one of the most important decisions of my life: to move to Canada. Now I have been living in Canada for 3 years and throughout that entire journey, she stood by me—not only with advice and emotional support, but also through action.
At one point, we even worked together on promoting the school in Russia. I got to see her not only as a brilliant educator but also as a leader and professional partner.

What makes Dr. Sharon special is her ability to connect on a human level. She teaches through conversation, curiosity, and care. With her, learning doesn’t feel like studying—it feels like discovering. Her simple and effective methods of teaching + the community of students she created (hello to everyone!) creates a friendly environment in class. She creates an environment where mistakes are welcome and growth is constant. I always felt seen, heard, and believed in.
Years later, I still carry her lessons with me—not just the English ones, but the ones about resilience, courage, and following your path.
